About This Spot

Stepping into Otto & Anita's Schnitzelhaus feels like settling into a well-loved corner of Bavaria nestled right in Portland’s heart. The atmosphere is quietly inviting, a gentle pause from the city's rush where warm wood tones and familiar aromas create a comforting backdrop. It’s the kind of place where time slows just enough to savor moments, and the easy camaraderie among diners and staff hints at a shared appreciation for tradition and honest flavors.

The pace here is unhurried but attentive, matching the rustic charm of its menu. Whether you’re drawn to a plate of lovingly pan-fried schnitzel or the unexpected delight of a bowl of dill pickle soup, every dish seems to carry the weight of heritage and homely care. The presence of hearty German classics mingling with American twists offers a taste journey that feels both genuine and accessible, creating a space where comfort food is also a conversation starter.

More than just a meal, Otto & Anita’s is a place where small human moments flourish—a shared laugh over an overflowing pretzel, the quiet pleasure of a dessert that recalls childhood, or a group breaking into song to mark a special occasion. It’s a neighborhood spot where warmth isn’t just in the kitchen but woven into the very fabric of the experience.

This is the place for every type of schnitzel! I'd endorse the schnitzel sandwich and the blackened salmon salad. Definitely try a cup of the dill pickle soup!

Wow honestly blown away at how great this was. The dill pickle soup is a must if you come here! Free warm bread with homemade butter was great. I suggest getting the Kaiserschnitzel as a main dish. Service was also wonderful. I had zero complaints

What a great place! We stopped here for lunch finally and will definitely be back. I first discovered this place after having visited Germany and looking for good schnitzel here at home. The hours are a lil weird with our schedule, but we finally made it! This place is as close as I've found to what we enjoyed over seas. We got all 4 of the lunch schnitzels. They're half orders and a lil smaller. So, it was perfect for the three of us. The dill pickle soup is excellent and the house-made Radler... Wow! Everyone over here wants to add juice to their radlers, but in Germany they add Sprite and that's really tough to find over here for some reason... Anyway, Otto and Anita do it right. The atmosphere was cute and homey. There was plenty of seating, but maybe not plenty of parking. We got a lil creative. We were too full for dessert, but it looks delicious. We'll definitely be back.

This place is great! The food was unbelievably good! And it was very reasonably priced, with great service and quickly served food! The restaurant had old-world atmosphere and a large selection of baked goods. Also the dark beer was awesome, so I'massumingthe others were good as well! The parking is tight, but that seems the case for many places in the area. I would recommend to all my friends!

My Wife finally remembered to bring me here for her birthday. It was such a joy. The food was rustic, real, and amazingly good...I simply adored their gurkensuppe! The atmosphere, those close in was not claustrophobic at all and had a sense of comraderie not often seen when dining out. Most everyone in the restaurant, staff and customers joined in to sing Happy Birthday to my Wife and another young Woman as well. It really was just a lovely evening, excellent food, attentive and responsive service, beautiful atmosphere.

Oh my goodness! My boyfriend and I came in for dinner after driving by so many times. He was stationed in Germany and mentioned missing the schnitzel and we decided to pop in. The pros: -fantastic service -fantastic food- we got the pickle soup (a must!), the rahmschnitzel , reisenschnitzel and currywurst to share. I imagine any of their schnitzel options are amazing however I can definitely recommend both of these - the dessert choices - delicious. Save room for it! Cons: -the only con is parking but don’t let that deter you from coming in, just be sure to leave a little earlier than you planned if you have reservations. We will absolutely be back, we had a wonderful date night and the food & service is fabulous. Thank you for having us <3

Otto & Anita's is a very special place. Awesome food with unique choices, great beer, and in a quirky location. The food is ALWAYS amazing. From schnitzel to currywurst; dill pickle soup to the bread—always good. My last trip in October, 2025 was no different. Fantastic service, friendly staff, and excellent German food. Having a German wife (and having been to Germany multiple times), I can say much of the food is authentic. They have other choices, too. And you simply must get the Dill Pickle Soup. The location in Multnomah Village can offer tricky parking, but it's usually just a brisk walk. The restaurant itself isn't terribly fancy nor modern. It has a quaint hominess to it, sort of like you're going to eat at your "oma's haus." It's kind of dark with cartoony murals of the old world and bits of German trinkets. Even if the decor isn't for you, the food and service will be. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland and if you're craving old-world faves, you need to try it.

I love this place so much! Wonderful service with delicious and interesting food. Super tasty deserts and awesome murals coating the walls. Lunch specials are a great way to try it without a reservation. Hot pretzels with mustard, Dill soup to die for and love their sauerkraut on the sandwiches. I feel so privileged to have such a enjoyable place to go, in walking distance to enjoy great food! Ill be back!
